Autumn Thoughts: Fingertips in Flight, Chapter Two

"Where did I put it?" Anqi searched her dorm room thoroughly but still couldn't find the sheet music. Dejected, she sat down on a nearby chair.

"Could I have lost it somewhere? Maybe..." Anqi wondered, "Could it be in the practice room?" She grabbed her coat and backpack from the back of the chair and headed out.
The practice room was empty. The piano sat in the center. Anqi opened the door and went in, but after looking around, she couldn't find the sheet music. Disappointed, she left the practice room.
On the tree-lined path, sycamore leaves drifted down in the wind, fluttering like butterflies. The benches stood quietly, as if waiting for someone's company. Anqi walked slowly along the leaf-strewn path, watching the leaves dance in the air, and sighed. Anqi
went into the library, looking for a book on the shelf. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a boy quietly reading across from her, a stack of sheet music on his desk. She walked over, picked up the sheet music, and saw her name and the words "Castle in the Sky" in large print. The boy looked up at Anqi standing in front of him, then glanced at the sheet music.
"This is what you left in the practice room. I wanted to call you back, but you turned and disappeared, so I had to keep it for you. I'll return it to you when I have the chance," he said. "Now that I've returned it, you should keep it safe and not lose it again." He stood up and turned to leave.
Anqi wanted to say something, but he was already gone. She looked at the sheet music in her hand, thinking about what the boy had just said, and chuckled softly.
  "Anqi?"
  "Huh?"
"What are you laughing at?" Zheng Zihao walked over and said, "Tell me something happy."
"Nothing. Hey? What are you doing here? Weren't you interning at the company?" Anqi asked, puzzled.
"Yeah, nothing much today, so I came back early to prepare for my thesis defense!" Zheng Zihao said.
  "Oh, I see!"
"By the way, Anqi. The piano competition is starting soon, do you want to participate?"
"Of course! I want to win the grand prize!" Anqi said confidently, sticking out her tongue playfully at Zheng Zihao.

With several months to go before next year's piano competition, Anqi practiced every day in the practice room. Her fingertips danced across the keys like little elves, each note flowing gently through the room. A passing boy glanced at Anqi practicing inside, lingered for a while, then turned and left. Anqi didn't know he had been there. After closing the piano lid, she picked up her coat and backpack and left the practice room.
At 5:30 PM, darkness gradually fell, the streetlights came on, and the autumn wind howled, causing leaves to flutter in the wind, as if warning people that the rainy season was approaching.
"Why is it going to rain again?" Anqi noticed the weather and quickly ran towards the dormitory building. The boy, seeing Anqi running, gripped his umbrella, ran to her, placed it in her hand, and then turned and left. Standing there, Anqi didn't have time to say thank you. She stared blankly at his departing figure, a warm feeling welling up inside her.
A light rain began to fall from the night sky. Anqi walked in the rain with an umbrella, wondering what would happen if he didn't have an umbrella? Would he catch a cold from the rain? Sigh, she always missed asking his name.

One day, Xiao Qing was happily waving her arms and humming a tune as she busied herself making a loving breakfast. Anqi walked into the kitchen and reached for the food on the plate, only to be slapped on the shoulder. "Ouch!" she cried out in pain. "
  That hurts!"
"Don't steal any food. This is a loving breakfast I made with my heart, not for you." Xiao Qing said as she put the breakfast in the lunchbox.
"You prioritize romance over friendship." Anqi glanced at Xiao Qing and asked, "Tell me the truth, who did you make it for?"
  "I won't tell you."
Xiao Qing put on her coat, slung her backpack over her shoulder, picked up the breakfast box, and left the dormitory.
Anqi felt very hungry, picked up her coat and backpack, and went outside.
Anqi carried her tray in the cafeteria, looking for a seat. She was overjoyed to see a table by the window and cautiously asked the boy eating in front of her.
  "May I sit here?"
The boy looked up at Anqi and nodded.
Anqi put her plate on the table, sat down, and ate her meal with relish, occasionally glancing at the boy eating quietly in front of her.
"What's your name?" Anqi asked softly, afraid of disturbing him.
  "Gu Yichen."
