Autumn Thoughts: Fingertips in Flight, Chapter Six

Watching Gu Yichen's departing figure, Anqi nodded resolutely. "Yes, I'm going to Suzhou too. "

In the evening, Anqi finished packing her luggage in her dorm, sat down, and picked up her phone to type a text message.
"What should I say?" She bit her lip, then suddenly had an idea. "That's it! I can surprise him at the bus stop! Anyway, we're going on holiday the day after tomorrow! Hehe..."
Xiao Qing walked into the dorm and saw the silly Anqi, thinking, "What's wrong with this girl? What's she grinning about?"
"Anqi, what are you grinning about?"
"Nothing." Anqi stopped grinning and looked serious. "I'm going to Suzhou the day after tomorrow. My luggage is all packed. I'm not going with you."
"What?" Xiao Qing exclaimed in surprise. "Not going with me? You're going by yourself?"
"Yes, my hometown is in Suzhou, so of course I'll go back by myself."
  "Oh, okay!"

The October weather was clear, with a biting autumn wind. Under the bus stop sign, Anqi, wearing a beige wool coat, faded jeans, and white canvas shoes, her long, flowing hair fluttering in the wind, looked like a very elegant young woman! She adjusted her collar, slung a black backpack over her shoulder, and put her hands in her pockets, waiting there.
After looking around, she saw Gu Yichen walking towards her and greeted him happily. Gu Yichen walked up to her and smiled.
"Are you waiting for me here?"
"Yes, let's go back to Suzhou together!" Anqi replied happily.
A bus slowly approached from a distance and stopped in front of the two. Anqi and Gu Yichen boarded one after the other. Anqi looked around but couldn't find a seat. She almost fell before she could even stand properly, but Gu Yichen pulled her to his side and held her in his arms.
  "Thank you!"
Anqi looked into his eyes, a slight smile playing
on her lips. During the journey, the trees outside the window rushed past, fallen leaves dancing like butterflies in the wind. The morning sky, once clear, suddenly darkened, and rain poured down. As they crossed the highway, Gu Yichen found a seat and pulled Anqi to sit in the back. In that instant, with a loud "whoosh," a truck crashed into them from the opposite direction.
Anqi slowly opened her eyes, feeling Gu Yichen's body pressed against her. Unable to move, she touched her head; it hurt a little, but she had only suffered minor injuries. Gu Yichen, however, had already passed out. She got up and hugged the unconscious Gu Yichen, shaking him vigorously, hoping to wake him.
"Yichen, wake up!" Anqi cried out, "Help! Someone, come quick..."
"Yichen, wake up! Don't die! I still have so much to say to you, Yichen, please wake up, I beg you..."
An ambulance arrived quickly from afar, and the paramedics set up the stretcher and began treatment. Gu Yichen was gently placed on the stretcher, put on an oxygen mask, and carried into the ambulance. Anqi followed closely behind.

Outside the operating room, Anqi's injured head was already wrapped in gauze. She sat there blankly, her eyes fixed on the light on the operating room door, tears streaming down her face. Xiao Qing rushed over after hearing the news, hugged the heartbroken Anqi, not knowing what to say, and could only cry with her.
  Ten minutes...
  thirty minutes...
  one hour...
  two hours...
the light went out, the operating room door opened, and a doctor in surgical scrubs walked out.
Anqi rushed forward, grabbing the doctor's arm and anxiously asking, "Doctor, how is he?"
"The surgery was successful." He paused, then continued, "The most crucial thing is whether he can wake up within forty-eight hours; that depends on the patient's will to live."
"What will happen if he doesn't wake up within forty-eight hours?" Xiao Qing asked.
  "He might become a vegetable."
"Doctor, please, please save him, I beg you," Anqi pleaded.
"Don't worry, I'll do my best," the doctor said before leaving.
