I ended up going to Wudian Middle School, losing those three years I could have spent with my elementary school classmates…
On August 28th, the entrance exam for junior high school was coming up. I rode my bicycle there with Huan Xueru, Zhang Yin, and me. (We grew up together, but we stopped going to the same elementary school in third grade.)
It was my first time at this school, and just looking at it from the gate filled me with excitement and anticipation. The names on the signboard shone brightly, and the sunlight was warm. There were so many people, so many people around me; I might become classmates with someone.
Squeezing through the crowd, I saw the huge campus. At first glance, I fell in love with the little bridge and the flowing water. I had imagined standing on the bridge with someone, looking at the sky, sitting there talking and chatting. The trees here were very, very tall, and I was still very young.
Now, this was a strange place. I only had one classmate from Liuxinzhuang Elementary School. I only recognized a few of my first and second grade classmates. The road was both narrow and wide.
Yin, Ru, and I didn't take the exam in the same building. It didn't matter; who was afraid of that? I went to Lide Building by myself, and they went to Shuren Building. I was in the second row against the wall, and I still remember it clearly.
Well, let's take the exams then: Chinese, Math, and a combined subject. I'm quite confident with Chinese and Math. As for the combined subject... I don't know anything about keyboards, nor do I understand the Mona Lisa's smile.
Reluctantly, I handed in my exam paper. I doubt anyone else knows either; we never learned it in elementary school.
The exams are over. Now, let's wait a few days. The exams are over, so let's go home. Me, Yin, and Ru, let's go home together.
