We single-mindedly pursue status, yet lose happiness; we strive for money, yet neglect morality; we blindly pursue freedom, yet waste our youth; we are eager to find shortcuts to success, yet forget the meaning of struggle.
—Zhou Guoping said, "Everyone has their own pilgrimage route, and each person's solitary path forms the spiritual home of this era." Indeed, each of us is looking around, running, and pursuing what we deem important on a path filled with faith. However, we fail to realize that some things are more important than what we are currently pursuing. Only after stumbling and falling do we realize that we have lost far more than we gained. After loss, we gradually understand: we should give more thought to our pursuits.
Please give more thought to your pursuits, let go of fame and fortune, and enjoy life. Excessive pursuit of money turns it from wealth into a burden. Quietly reflect: life is short, what is more important than happiness? Thoreau, faced with nature, lamented: "We are compelled to live so earnestly, to revere our own lives, and to reject any possible change. We say this is the only way, but in fact, there are as many ways of life as there are diameters through the center." It was this reflection that led him to relinquish the status and power pursued by the world, choosing instead to return to nature and wander along the shores of Walden Pond. The grandeur of nature allowed him to understand the meaning of life. Our pursuit of fame and fortune is too hasty; please pause, give your pursuits more time to reflection, and don't sacrifice happiness for material possessions—happiness is more important than money.
Please give your pursuits more time to reflection, pause, and rediscover morality. Times are changing, and society is evolving rapidly. While society brings us immense material enjoyment, morality is gradually declining. Moral crises such as the "Ma Jiajue incident" and the "Little Yueyue incident" occur one after another. How can the five thousand years of Chinese virtues be severed in our hands? The inheritance of morality is far more important than material progress. Therefore, please pause our pace and wait for our morality to recover. Seek out the positive energy provided by moral exemplars such as "Most Beautiful Teacher" Zhang Lili and outstanding cadre Yang Shanzhou. Give your pursuits more thought. In the pursuit of material progress, do not lose sight of morality. Reclaim morality and promote righteousness.
Please give your pursuits more thought, relinquish the freedom of ignorance, and cherish your precious youth. Youth is vibrant on the one hand, and rebellious on the other. We crave freedom, thinking youth can be squandered, but we ignore its brevity and preciousness. Our responsibilities are more important than freedom. Youth should be about striving and not succumbing to fate, playing miracles with our own feet—this is Liu Wei's youth; fearless of death, never giving up—this is Hemingway's youth. Our youth is short, so please give your pursuits more thought, cherish your youth, and don't gamble today for tomorrow.
From this shore to the other, from one goal to another, we are forever runners, striving for the meaning of life, wholeheartedly wanting to do what we believe is important. When we find our pursuits have gone astray, please stop, give your pursuits more thought, and strive to find something more important. Perhaps, the light is just ahead.
Let your mind rest in the busy pursuit, think in the sky of reason, and when everything slowly becomes clear, set off again. At this moment, under a vast sky and amidst gentle clouds, I admire the verdant grass, blooming flowers, and delicate orchids, freeing myself from the shackles of fame and fortune, calming the rebellious storms: I want to pursue what truly matters!
Please give your pursuits more thought, and sincerely understand the true meaning of life.
