Don't be greedy for alcohol when you're having a good time.

My friend Li and his family were celebrating moving into a new house and invited a few of us friends over for a small gathering. Before the meal, Li discovered he was out of baijiu (Chinese liquor) and went out to buy some. On the street, he ran into my friend Xiao Luo and casually said, "Come to my house for dinner." Xiao Luo saw the liquor in Li's hand and, without a word, happily followed.

During the meal, the drinks flowed freely, and some of the friends with lower alcohol tolerance couldn't keep up, leaving only Li and Xiao Luo, who could hold their liquor, still frequently raising their glasses. Suddenly, Xiao Luo collapsed on the table and couldn't be woken up. Everyone quickly moved him to the sofa in the living room. Xiao Luo vomited everything he had eaten and lay on the sofa for over an hour without recovering. Li, in desperation, had to take out Xiao Luo's phone and call his wife to come pick him up.

Half an hour later, Xiao Luo's wife arrived in her car. Upon seeing the drunk Xiao Luo, Xiao Luo's wife flew into a rage. She yelled viciously, "Why don't you just drink yourself to death?! Do you think I came here to pick you up? I came to see what a mess you've made of!" Before she finished speaking, she kicked Xiao Luo hard. Then, Xiao Luo's wife pointed at Brother Li and his wife and berated them, "Do you know he has liver disease and can't drink?! If he drinks himself to death, none of you will escape; you'll each have to pay me 400,000 yuan!" After

Xiao Luo and his wife left, in front of several friends, Sister-in-law Li severely reprimanded Brother Li, blaming him for bringing Xiao Luo to their home for dinner. Brother Li was also furious, and the two had a big argument, spoiling the atmosphere for everyone, and the meeting ended unhappily.

In his circle of friends, Brother Yu was known for his drinking capacity and generosity. Before the Lunar New Year this year, Brother Yu closed several business deals and was very proud of himself, telling everyone he met that he would buy a house in Chenzhou after the New Year and bring his wife and children from his hometown in Guidong to live with him. For half a month, Brother Yu organized dinner parties with friends almost every day, drinking at every one, always getting drunk. On the night of the 24th of the twelfth lunar month, after drinking excessively, Brother Yu suffered cardiac arrest and died in his rented room. Brother Yu had a seventy-year-old mother, a minor son, and a wife who was unemployed. He left his family with meager savings and lifelong sorrow.

"Drink today, for tomorrow we may die," and "Enjoy life while you can, for tomorrow we may die"—these famous sayings are familiar to everyone. But in reality, even when life is going well, moderation is essential. Friends gathering is supposed to be a joyous occasion, but Xiao Luo drank without restraint, harming his own health, causing his wife immense grief, and ruining his friend's housewarming celebration. Brother Yu closed a big deal, which should have been a celebration, but he indulged in excessive eating and drinking, ultimately losing his life due to alcohol. Moderation in all things is not only a wisdom for dealing with people but also a way to maintain good health. When life is going well, don't be overjoyed or indulge in excessive drinking; otherwise, things will turn out the opposite, and excessive joy will turn into sorrow.
