After years of treatment with no effect, she was in despair. She locked herself in her room. She felt the sky had fallen, and her world would be nothing but darkness from now on. She tried to open her eyes wide, but to no avail; everything outside remained dark.
Her husband burst into the room, fearing she might do something rash. "Glaucoma isn't a big deal. We'll go to the best hospital. Science is so advanced now; there's bound to be a way for you to see all this beauty again. As long as you don't give up, there's hope. Even if it really can't be cured, I'll be your eyes for the rest of your life, your strongest crutch." Her husband's words moved her deeply, and after some discussion, they decided to undergo the final treatment—surgery.
At the hospital, the surgery was scheduled for several days later. Seeing his wife lying anxiously in the hospital bed, her husband opened the window and said to her, "Don't lose heart; everything will be alright. Even though you can't see everything outside, I will tell you what you can see, so you can feel the beauty of the outside world just like me." The husband described it: "Outside, there's a lush green meadow, with tender willow branches swaying in the gentle breeze. Trees line both sides of the stone steps, and patients stroll in twos and threes beneath them. Above the treetops is a clear blue sky, and occasionally, a few birds take flight. Bright red flowers bloom in profusion. A gentle breeze carries the fragrance of flowers and the faint scent of grass. Can you smell it? As long as you have faith that your eyes will be healed, you'll see all the beauty outside, just like me." The wife smiled softly, "Really? Is it really that beautiful outside?" The husband nodded, "Yes, I think once your eyes can see all this again, you'll find the flowers bloom even better, more vibrantly. You'll find the grass so green, and everything so beautiful."
A few days later, the wife went into surgery, and the operation went smoothly. After a period of recovery, the bandages could be removed. Lying in bed, the wife asked her husband, "Is everything outside still as beautiful as before? Am I still..." "Will you soon see all the beauty you've described?" the husband asked. "Yes," she replied, "you'll see it soon, and it will be even more beautiful than I described. The sky will be so blue, and the grass so green." A little over a month later, the wife removed her bandages and gently opened her eyes. Outside was a lush, glowing green meadow. Overjoyed, she went outside and took a deep breath of the fresh air. For the first time, she felt how beautiful everything outside was, how wonderful life was. It seemed that this world was forever full of hope, and that hope made everything more precious and beautiful.
The husband went over and said, "Whether you were blind or not, all this beauty won't disappear just because you can't see it. Everything is still here. The beautiful scenery is still here, the beautiful hope is still here, and I am still here too. I won't leave just because you can't see it. Everything is by your side. Nothing will disappear because of temporary misfortune or temporary difficulty, just as you can't see it. Beautiful things will never disappear just because you can't see them." The wife smiled and said, "Everything is still here. I have never lost anything." Life
is beautiful, and everything is full of hope. No matter what situation we are in, don't be discouraged or disheartened. Don't feel that everything has lost its original meaning. In fact, all the beauty is still there, and hope is still there. Losing direction is only temporary. As long as you open your heart to hope, all the beauty has never gone far away.
