   What is the Feynman Learning Technique?

  Simply put, it means being able to explain anything you've learned to others in simple, clear language, without using technical jargon, and if they can understand it, then you've fully mastered that knowledge.

  Like Bai Juyi, who would often read his poems to illiterate elderly women, revising them until they understood,

  the Feynman Learning Technique categorizes learned knowledge into two main types:

  knowing the name of things and

  understanding the things themselves.

  Knowing the name and knowing the things themselves are two completely different things, representing a new way of thinking that allows you to break down and recombine concepts. As

  Einstein said, "If you can't explain something simply, you don't understand it." This is the essence of the Feynman Learning Technique.

  The most interesting thing is that this method is very simple; anyone who sees it can understand it immediately and apply it right away. Below is an introduction to the Feynman Learning Method, which generally consists of five steps: 1. Gathering information and defining learning goals; 2. Learning and understanding; 3. Explaining and restating; 4. Simplifying language and simulating teaching; 5. Correcting mistakes and reflecting; 6. Testing results.

  Step 1: Gathering information and defining learning goals

  . First, figure out what you want to learn and to what extent. Then, gather relevant information, such as textbooks, exercises, and course videos for the subject. Write down your goals on paper or in a notebook. The purpose of using pen and paper is to reinforce your understanding. Clarify the concepts, content, and themes of the knowledge you want to learn, and write down the knowledge points you want to understand in a notebook.

  Step 2: Learning and understanding, and taking notes .

  This step is similar to traditional learning. Understand the knowledge points in the learning materials, memorize each point, take notes, and organize and record what you have learned.

  The third step is to set aside the materials and restate the material on paper. Review the materials again for any parts

  you don't understand. This is where the key point begins. Close the book, turn off the computer, and set the materials aside. List the knowledge points you just learned on paper, then explain them to yourself or someone else to see if you can explain them clearly. Write down the explanation of each knowledge point on paper. In this process, you will more clearly realize how much you understand the concept and what parts you haven't fully grasped.

  Here's a key point: don't restate according to exam standards; restate according to your own understanding. Otherwise, it becomes exam-oriented learning.

  The fourth step is to simplify your language and simulate teaching

  . If you feel you can't explain something clearly or get stuck while explaining it to others, that's where your understanding is weak. Review the materials again and study them carefully until you can explain the knowledge point fluently.

  After clarifying these problematic knowledge points, explain them in your own words, striving to simplify your language or use analogies to help others understand.

  Step 5: Review and Reflect

  After restating, reopen your books and materials to check if you explained things correctly. If there are any mistakes, reflect on why, where you misunderstood, and review those areas again.

  Step 6: Test Your Results

  After restating again, if there are no errors, test your results. If there are exercises, do them; otherwise, use what you've learned to create some projects. For example, with Photoshop, find an image and modify it according to your own ideas, designing the modification steps to see if you can complete it independently. If you can, it proves you have mastered this knowledge.
