Personal views on minimalism

When I first encountered minimalism, I posed three questions. To try and answer them, I read Joshua and Ryan's works on minimalism, seeking answers within their writings.

First, I asked myself: What is minimalism? Minimalism, as an "ism," is a spirit, a philosophy. Therefore, minimalism is about freeing oneself from the burdens of redundancy and complexity, pursuing a simple, efficient lifestyle, and focusing more on the most essential things. Minimalism is a principle to follow in life, a pursuit of a refined life, and a guide for handling affairs. After explaining what minimalism is, the second question arises:

Why pursue minimalism? Minimalism eliminates the unnecessary and troubling aspects of life, leaving only what we personally need and love. Minimalism not only brings efficiency and convenience to our lives but also enjoyment and happiness. Guided by minimalism, we can truly find meaning in our lives, rather than in ever-satisfied desires. This is the kind of life everyone yearns for and pursues throughout their lives; I think this is the reason for pursuing a minimalist lifestyle.

How should one pursue minimalism? The author focuses on five key values for a meaningful life: health, relationships, passion, growth, and risk. Minimalism aims to set aside the pursuit of money, power, and fame, placing the measure of life's meaning and success on life itself, not on numbers and status. To pursue minimalism, we must first identify what we truly need in life and what kind of life we aspire to. As the book states, we must first find our anchor—the things we pursue and rely on, the core of our lives. It forms the foundation of our values and our ultimate meaning. Everyone's pursuits differ, so we cannot simply copy the book; we must explore and discover our own anchor. After identifying our anchor, the next step is action. List the things you want to pursue as "must-dos," not "should-dos." Must-dos are those that must be done no matter what. For example, reclaiming your time, finding your mission, pursuing your hobbies, changing your lifestyle, etc. These things are not easy; they require daily focus and dedication to maintain progress. To continue living a meaningful life, we must constantly strive and improve every aspect of our lives. We must do this every day.
